What is a Persian Kolyaee Carpet?
Twelve hours driving west of the Capital City of Tehran in a very rugged and
mountainous area is the Capital of Kurdistan, the beautiful city of San-nan-daj.
The locals are mostly Persian Kurds who live in and around the City of
San-nan-daj. Kurdistan and the City of San-nan-daj is known worldwide for the
magnificent and unique Senneh rugs and Kleims which are very rare and hard to
find.
A 4X6 feet Persian Senneh made in early 1920’s if found in mint condition would
be worth as much as $6000.00 in the Rug boutiques of Tehran and even more in
Europe.
However, being and artist and designer, I personally love the Kurdish Kolyaee
carpets which are usually much larger and mostly are woven in narrow and longer
sizes, like 5X10 feet or 4.5X11. The Kurds used to weave these exotic carpets to
be used in their own homes, mostly with exotic geometric patterns and rich dark
colors.
Occasionally the locals trade their rugs for other merchandise and very few
amongst these trade-ins would qualify for our high standards of quality and
selectivity.
It is not easy to find 50 to 60 years old Persian Kolyaee rugs in mint condition
throughout like you find on this site.
Like Kurdish Senneh rugs these Kurdish Kolayee carpets are specially unique not
only for their size and design but also the fact that there are not very many
around in excellent condition.
As an expert and certified appraiser of Persian rugs we love the originality,
quality, design and colors of these rare exotic Persian Kurdish Kolyaee Carpets.
Every rug we have acquired has been sent to our facility where they are
thoroughly cleaned and properly washed, sheared and worked on to make sure that
they are in excellent condition and show their true quality and colors.
Should you choose to buy one or more, I assure you that a few years from now it
would be almost impossible to find these rugs even in Kurdistan and that is what
distinguishes a True Persian carpet for all other rugs woven in commercialized
rug factories of many other countries such as India, Pakistan, China or Nepal.
